Painting to Music Series
This series was conceived when I realized how different music influenced my painting. This happened while painting with a group of artists using a live model. Everyone would bring some favorite music to listen to which might be changed after we took a break. When the new music played I was painting in a totally different mood and style that changed brush strokes and colors. I never realized how much this affected my work before.
Therefore, I began this series with particular songs that I loved. I would play this music while working, sometimes the entire CD if the other songs did not stray too far from the mindset, other times I worked only from one inspirational song.
This work is not planned and totally spontaneous. I may begin with certain images in my mind's eye, but the music is the ultimate conductor. Some pieces contain images from the lyrics, some pieces do not. Others are more abstract with the emphasis on color, form and brush strokes--whereever the music takes me.
